As a mom and entrepreneur, I understand firsthand the delicate balance between growing a business and raising little ones. When I launched FM Bookkeeping in 2023, I was driven by a passion to help small business owners, like myself, manage their finances with ease and confidence. But little did I know, stepping into the world of entrepreneurship while being a new mom would teach me lessons I never anticipated.
Being a mompreneur means juggling responsibilities in a way that no one can truly prepare you for. Some days are filled with meetings, balancing the books, and strategic planning for the future of the business, while others are filled with snuggles, school runs, and late-night feeds. Finding a way to merge these worlds is not always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding.
Here’s how I’m making it work:
- Embrace Flexibility in Your Schedule
As a mompreneur, my schedule can change at a moment’s notice. I’ve learned to embrace flexibility and adjust my work hours around my family's needs. I’ve also found that using scheduling tools for appointments, meetings, and tasks has been a lifesaver. Setting clear boundaries and creating a work-from-home routine helps keep me on track, even if the occasional toddler tantrum or nap time interruption occurs. - Outsource Where You Can
In both motherhood and entrepreneurship, there’s no need to do it all alone. I’ve learned the value of outsourcing tasks that are outside of my expertise, like marketing or website maintenance, so I can focus on what truly matters—both at home and in my business. Whether it’s hiring a virtual assistant or asking for help from family members, delegation is key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. - Teach Your Kids About Money
As a financial professional, I see the importance of educating my children early about money. Whether it’s teaching them the basics of saving or involving them in simple budgeting exercises, it’s never too early to introduce financial literacy. Not only does this help them understand the value of money, but it also reinforces the lessons I’m learning in my own business about the importance of budgeting, cash flow, and financial security. - Don’t Forget to Take Care of Yourself
As a mompreneur, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life. But I’ve learned that taking time for myself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a cup of coffee, a walk outside, or an hour of self-care, investing in my own well-being helps me show up as a better mom and a more focused entrepreneur. - Celebrate Your Wins—Big and Small
Whether I’ve signed a new client or successfully made it through a day without a meltdown (from me or my kids!), I’ve learned to celebrate all victories. Every win, no matter how small, is a reminder of the hard work, dedication, and love I pour into both my business and my family.
Why This Journey Matters
My journey as a mompreneur is about more than just building a business. It’s about breaking down barriers, sharing the ups and downs of balancing family and entrepreneurship, and raising awareness about the challenges we face as mothers who are also striving to succeed professionally.
I want other moms to know they don’t have to choose between being a great mom and running a successful business. With the right mindset, support, and tools, you can thrive in both. That’s why I’m committed to spreading the message that being a mompreneur is not only possible—it’s empowering. And I’m here to help you every step of the way.
So, fellow mompreneurs, let’s raise our glasses (of coffee) to the beautiful chaos that comes with building our businesses while building our families. Keep pushing forward, keep growing, and most importantly, keep believing in yourself. You've got this.
If you’re a small business owner looking to take control of your finances with confidence, FM Bookkeeping is here to support you. Let’s tackle those numbers together so you can focus on what truly matters—your business and your family.
